Get Started with Swift: Exploring SwiftUI with Paul Hudson at Apple Developer Academy

Published July 1, 2026

💡 Investing in new skills is always time well spent.

From June 29th to July 1st, I participated in the Get Started with Swift program hosted by the Apple Developer Academy @ BINUS.

It was a fantastic hands-on experience exploring Swift with Paul Hudson (@twostraws) — such a humble and funny mentor! We worked on building custom app layouts and diving deep into the iOS ecosystem. Getting to learn directly in such a collaborative environment was truly inspiring! 🍎📱

🛠️ Technical Insights: Declarative SwiftUI vs. Imperative UIKit

Technically speaking, SwiftUI brings a declarative approach compared to the imperative style of UIKit (similar to Android's transition from XML to Jetpack Compose). Having spent time coding in UIKit, switching to SwiftUI feels like a game-changer for development speed — it drastically cuts down boilerplate code and handles complex state management effortlessly.
